Madagascar wildlife has many highlights, but the one which comes first in people’s mind is definitely the lemur, with its soft fur and its curiosity for the visitors from their safe observation deck in trees. The largest is the Indri-indri, it can be up to a meter high, and it has this very special eerie call that can be heard kilometers away. It is found at Andasibe National Park. Then, the most bizarre is probably the Aye-aye, the biggest nocturnal species, characterized by its long and slender fingers, its big eyes and its large sensitive ears. The most amazing one is probably the dancing Sifaka (Verreaux’s sifaka) found in the southeast.
Beside lemurs, Madagascar is also rich in birds (115 species with 39 endemic), reptiles, geckos, amphibians, frogs, chameleons… and 13 000 species of plants.
In a few words, Madagascar is a magical island.
