Best known for its land fauna, Madagascar is also a good spot for diving. Many interesting diving sites lie between 13 to 18m. Ship wrecks can be found between 18 and 50m. The best period goes from May to December with an average water temperature ranging from 23°C to 28°C.
Grouper, clownfish, scorpionfish, suregonfish, barracuda as well as manta rays, mobula rays, omura whales, green turtles, bottlenose and spinner dolphins and many more species can be seen easily in the crystal-clear water.
Those who want to « meet with the giants », will come from July to October : humpacks whales migrate to Madagascar from early July to late August. Then, in October the world’s largest fish , the whale shark, is very easy to see.
The best areas for diving are : around Nosy Be (Mitsio and Ramada archipelagoes), Sainte-Marie and Salary - Andavadoaka.
