Sustainable Travel : For a Greener Future

Let's make a positive impact on the environment and the community

OUR COMMITMENT

Our team, in collaboration with our key partners, is committed to reducing the negative impacts of tourism on the environment.

immersive travel
TAMàNA has chosen to advocate slow, immersive travel by encouraging visitors to reconnect with community and nature.

Our responsible approaches

Managing environmental impact as an integral part of our operations. Our policy is to ensure the environmental integrity of our processes and products at all times.

TAMàNA places great importance on the welfare of children, communities and animals, and aims to offer tours that leave the smallest footprint on the environment. We respect the authenticity of the communities and the natural environment and are strongly opposed to harming wildlife and polluting the environment.

Maintaining transparency in sustainability through public reporting and clear communication of our targets, actions, measures, responsibilities and time planning.

Involving the staff in our sustainability action plan and ensuring that they are fully aware of our Sustainability Policy and are committed to implementing and improving it.

Our leadership model

Placing great importance on the welfare of employees. They represent our most valuable asset in providing our customers with rewarding travel experiences. TAMàNA is then due to provide them a safe, healthy, and welcoming workplace

We are committed to ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and equally, and that they are given the same opportunities regardless of their background. This applies to all aspects of employment, including pay, promotions, benefits, and professional development.

TAMàNA is dedicated to providing employment opportunities for qualified local guides, porters, cooks, drivers and other local staff, offering them a fair and competitive salary, as well as safe and ethical working conditions. We encourage our suppliers to adopt similar practices when employing local staff on our behalf.

Our environmental practices

Trying to implement an office waste management policy. That said, separate our paper waste from any other form of waste so that it can be recycled later.

Reducing our carbon footprint and working to reduce the amount of travel we undertake in our operations as much as possible.

Raising our customers' awareness and helping them offset some of their carbon footprint.

Promoting sustainable holiday products/packages based on a recognized methodology, including sustainable transport, accommodation and activities.

Territory and community impact

Sourcing our products and services locally and/or responsibly, avoiding harm to society, culture and nature. We expect the same from our suppliers.

Preferring and selecting accommodations that are locally owned and managed, and that meet sustainability and quality standards, considering their sustainability management and social/environmental footprint.

Ensuring that local customs, traditions, cultural integrity and natural resources must be respected in all excursions and activities organized by or on behalf of TAMàNA.

Tamàna Company creates trips and experiences all over Madagascar. We use and depend on the natural environment and the people. Therefore, we feel it is our duty and responsibility to contribute to the conservation of the environment as well as to the education and personal development of the people.

Environment

In 2023, we adopted Rohy, a 5 meter long male tagged whale shark.

Why did you adopt Rohy?
Simply because we wanted to support the Madagascar Whale Shark Foundation (MWSP). Whale sharks are undoubtedly a source of income for Nosy Be, and in recent years there has been a strong craze for these megapters. These animals are also under increasing pressure from tourists and local operators. If their observation is not supervised and organised, they could find themselves in danger and no longer come to these waters for their annual migration.
MWSP conducts research to improve our knowledge and understanding of whale sharks, as well as training local operators, helping to develop a sustainable observation charter, and taking children out to sea so that they can discover these giants of the sea and create a bond with them.
Tamàna is delighted to be associated with this project and hopes that the adoption of Rohy will be just the first step in helping to conserve marine species in Madagascar.
