This April (or 'Aprily' in Malagasy), we are kicking off with the stunning Isalo National Park. Located on the iconic RN7 in the heart of Bara country, this park holds immense cultural and spiritual significance for the Bara people, who have been traditional zebu breeders for generations. You'll be amazed by the stunning scenery. The Isalo massif is a beautiful ruiniform formation, well-known for its lush green canyons, vast grassy deserts, and ever-changing palette of colours throughout the day, making it reminiscent of the Wild West.
But that's not all! Isalo is also home to 14 species of lemur, including lemur catta, lemur fulvus, and sifaka. The Benson's rockbird and the small yellow frog Mantella expectata are both endemic to this park, and you might even spot them during your visit. Keep an eye out for Pachypodium in the dry parts of the massif, and Pandanus in the canyons. These discoveries make the park truly amazing.
The park can be visited in two exciting ways! You can either plan a day trip and stay in one of Ranohira's many comfortable hotels, or embark on an adventurous trek lasting from one night to several nights in tents at the various bivouac sites provided by the park's management body, MNP.
Isalo is easily accessible by road from Tana or Tuléar, and there is even an airstrip available for private planes. How thrilling!
Ideally, allow three nights and two days on-site to fully enjoy the experience
